The Academy is a founding member of the Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition, an interdisciplinary consortium dedicated to clinician collaboration across hospital settings in the U.S. to identify and address adult hospital nutrition. The Alliance is committed to raising awareness about malnutrition and championing for early nutrition screening, assessment and intervention in hospitals amongst the entire patient care team. The Alliance consists of leaders from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, Society of Hospital Medicine, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Alliance has collaborated on a new consensus paper, Critical Role of Nutrition in Improving Quality of Care: An Interdisciplinary Call to Action to Address Adult Hospital Malnutrition. The consensus paper is in the September 2013 issue of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is available online.
The Online Training in Adult Malnutrition is a free CPE program designed to enhance the knowledge base and skill set of providers of malnourished patients. Learning about adult malnutrition and its effects provides an opportunity for important benefits such as improved patient outcomes, reduced readmissions, facility cost savings and professional recognition.
This online training program was developed by Abbott Nutrition Health Institute, a continuing professional education accredited provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. A team of clinicians, including RDNs, and more than 30 leading experts in the field of malnutrition contributed to the development and review of the online training program components.
